Application and use

The surface of HERMAtherm D offers an excellent quality of the imprint with all conventional printing methods. In general, suitability of all printing inks should be tested prior to printing. Web temperature during curing should not exceed 50 °C in order to prevent an early reaction of the thermo reactive ink.

Printing speeds of up to 200 mm/s are possible in thermo direct printing.

This phenol-free paper can be used wherever thermal reactive labels of smudge proof, solvent and grease resistant paper are required, e.g. for weight labels (meat packers, supermarkets) or for price marking labels (excellent suitability for EAN and UPC codes). It can be used for moistly and dry applications. Applications on surfaces containing plasticizers are only partially possible. By reason that intensive contact with plasticizers might reduce the sensitivity of the thermo reactive coating and might cause a fading of the printed image, for applications on soft PVC films individual tests are recommended.

The pulp for this paper comes from FSC® certified forest management and other controlled sources.

Adhesive 62A is a universally applicable permanent adhesive with excellent adhesion properties on various surfaces. It features very high adhesion on both polar and nonpolar (PE) surfaces. The adhesive is suitable for autoclave sterilisation, preferably in combination with vellum paper. The adhesive is highly water proof and particularly resistant to light, heat and ageing.

This supercalendered glassine is perfectly suited for assignment in labelling machines equipped with optical or mechanical scanners.

Adhesive 92K has been specially developed for deep-freeze applications. Initial tack on frozen surfaces of -20°C is excellent. Adhesion is equally good on damp surfaces. With ambient temperatures, both initial tack and final adhesion are excellent on unpolar surfaces such as PE and PP films.

The supercalendered glassine is perfectly suited for assignment in labelling machines equipped with optical or mechanical scanners.

Processing

Excellent die-cutting characteristics on all customary machines. As part of a self-adhesive compound HERMA PH (515) offers excellent die-cutting characteristics with all customary flatbed and rotary die-cutting tools. Good die-cutting characteristics on all usual machines. Excellent printability with UV printing inks. As part of a self-adhesive compound HERMA PW (517) offers excellent die-cutting characteristics with all customary flatbed and rotary die-cutting tools.

Storage conditions

Storing at a temperature of 20 ± 5 °C, a relative humidity of 45 ± 5 % and a dark storage is recommended. Moisture, heat and direct sunlight have to be avoided.

The shelf life is one year from date of production.

Regulations concerning contact with food

For any food application the above mentioned thermal paper can be used together with a functional barrier to achieve a non-migration, the functional barriers tested for this purpose covering all the categories of foodstuffs for which the above mentioned thermal paper is likely to be used (biscuits, bakery, ice cream, confectionary, crisps & snacks, frozen & dry food, beverage powders, meat & gassing ripening cheese packaging). In any case, a direct contact is not foreseen.

All ingredients of adhesive 62A comply with recommendation FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).

The pressure-sensitive adhesive 62A can be safely used for the back coating of labels for the labelling of foodstuffs for storage at room temperature and below. It may be used in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs that can be assigned a correction factor of at least 3 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011. Furthermore, the adhesive may be used for laminating various materials. In this case, cut edge contact with food is harmless as far as the above mentioned adhesive is concerned. It must be ensured that the relevant migration limits are complied with by the laminated packaging (Declaration of no objection valid until 29.11.2025).

Furthermore the self-adhesive labels with the adhesive 62A can be used for labelling of blood bags (Expert's Opinion from November 11, 2021).

The paper complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.

All ingredients of adhesive 92K comply with recommendation FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).

The paper liner complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.
